: What watch will you be wearing on Friday???

Post05 Oct 2007, 11:06

friday 5th october and I received this last night as a gift from my wife on our 10th anniversary.

Image

My first modern lcd! She bought it because she liked the "dork" name and thought it appropriate! :-? Does the light button actually work? 'Cos mine doesn't.

Ah, the Nixon Dork, very nice ;-)
I wish someone would make me such gifts ;-)
Better hoard some CR2025 batteries, because unless they improved the circuit, battery life is 3 months. There are however ways to improve this...
There is no backlight - on my Metal Dork the upper left button is marked "SET" on the case - in the printed instructions, it was "LIGHT" (also in the downloadable PDF IIRC), but pasted over with little a "SET" label. Maybe they thought they could omit the light because the watch can talk.

The Metal Dork (same, but steel bracelet) has 9 times etched on the inner side of the bracelet (e.g. 5:55). At these times, the watch gives an additional message if you press the "talk" button. I don't want to ba e spoiler, so I'll tell you the other times only on explicit request ;-)

Yes, nice Dork there Fitron. It's great that your wife is supportive of your digital-addiction. :-)

True to my name I'm wearing an LED> one of my trusty Phasars.

Please excuse the slight blurr - I still have to buy a proper tripod - but I think I did pretty good.

Mike Barbaro had these cases for sale for the longest. At 12 for $5, I couldn't resist. Microsonic - not too bad considering: MINT/NEW, glass screen and takes a 24mm band, which gives it a slightly fatter "strap" look since it blends into the body nicely. A nice "box" it ship someone a Hughes module in?

Thanks for the PM with the times Rewolf. It appears that if you have the alarm set to go off it yells out "Dork" every hour on the hour. I found this out when my boss was giving out instructions to our team and then, in a moment of silence..."DORK" and everyone looked at me.....

I don't use the alarm now.

ROFL - I hope you boss has sense of humour ;-)

The chime and alarm can be activated separately, at least on my model:
manual wrote:If you see the Nixon icon, then the Alarm is ON. If you see the
bulls-eye, then the Chime is ON. To turn the Chime ON or OFF,
press the On/Off button in Time Mode.
Just watch out for the "bulls-eye" ;-)

Seeing as how you work in a library now, I think an appropriate response would have been,"ssssssshh!"

They did see the funny side I'm glad to say, but until I figured it out some of the readers did give me startled looks every hour. It's surprisingly loud in a library.

OK I'm late but I've been away at a wedding in the far north of Scotland for several days. I have a kilt in a black tartan (black on black with some other black thrown in) and the buttons are silver, as is the accessories - cufflinks, sgian dubh etc so the wittnauer 1 was a perfect and discreet match. Here's a rubbish photo.

I really need to take some better ones of this one.

It's not digital, but it is the FIRST solar powered watch of any type.

Citizen Crystron

Sure? According to http://www.taschenfernseher.de/doku/citizen-history.pdf, in August 1976 "World's first analog quartz watch using sunlight as power source, “Citizen Quartz Crystron Solar Cell,” marketed."
Anyway, nice watch (for an analog and gold filled one ;-))

Yes, but it has very poor power reserve, and its readability in the dark is also not very good ;-)

Well....technically a sundial is a passive device and the shadow you read is the absence of power? 8-)
